Regional Age Concern phone number now live

Age Concern’s new regional telephone number 0800 AGE CON (0800 243 266)  is now live for older people to call if they need urgent support in Hawke’s Bay.

Age Concern manager Carol Winters said the 0800 AGE CON number has been set up to ensure that older people living across our community are able to get the urgent help they need.

“We are expecting calls to increase as people receive their pensions today.  It is very important for our older community who are over 70 to stay home, this means not going to the supermarket or to the money machine to get cash,” Ms Winters said.

“Thanks to a great team effort we have been able to quickly set up our 0800 AGE CON number with NOW NZ under urgency and have the volunteer support networks in place to ensure we can provide the service needed.

“Already, our volunteer callers have been speaking with hundreds of older people and quickly identifying and prioritising those in our community who need help.

“Our volunteers are also keeping in regular contact with those who are now on a priority list because they are living on their own and require support, especially those who need food and other essential supplies and do not have anyone they can ask to shop or collect and drop to their door.

“It is absolutely critical that people over 70 do not leave their homes.  We are establishing networks so that there is support in place for our most vulnerable who need our help,” she said.
