Waipawa Pool to open on Friday

The Waipawa and Districts Centennial Memorial Pool is set to officially open on Friday next week.

At an official function at 3.30pm on Friday, the pool will be blessed with official proceedings to open the pool, followed shortly after by an afternoon of community fun including free ice blocks, sausage sizzle – and, of course, swimming.

The new $1.2 million pool, reconstructed by local company Jacobs Construction, was a key project consulted on in Central Hawke’s Bay District Council’s 2018-2028 Long Term Plan.  The pool features a new 25-metre pool, play pool, wheelchair accessibility ramps into both pools and all new filtration and reticulation.

The council committed $650,000 in the first year of its Long Term Plan to the two-stage project, with a local community Project group fundraising the balance of some $550,000 for the project.  Fundraising is well underway with the group honing in on their fundraising target.

“They are close, however still need support from our community to get the fundraising over the line”, says Doug Tate, Group Manager Customer and Community Partnerships.

“Under the leadership of Bruce Stephenson, the group have done an outstanding job getting us to where we are today”.

Any individuals looking to make financial contributions or support the fundraising efforts can contact the Projects Funding Co-Ordinator Pip Burne by email pip.burne@gmail.com or follow the project on the Waipawa and District Centennial Memorial Pool facebook page.
