Water in parts of Napier may be discoloured this week due to council maintenance

Napier City Council is warning tap water in parts of the city may be discoloured at times this week as it carries out maintenance on the reticulation network.

The council is carrying out scheduled maintenance of the network late at night on Wednesday and Thursday this week, and in the early hours of Thursday and Friday mornings (10 April to 12 April).

The maintenance has been scheduled for late evening and the early hours of the morning when water usage is at its lowest level.

As the work may cause the flow of the water to change direction at times, the Tamatea and east side of Poraiti may experience discoloured water late on Wednesday, after 10pm, and early Thursday morning.

The following night’s maintenance may result in discoloured water in the central business district.

The council says if discolouration does occur, residents should run cold and/or outside taps for 10 to 15 minutes or until the water is clear. Ensure the water is clear before switching on washing machines.

If the problem persists, contact the council’s customer service centre immediately on (06) 835 7579.
