What’s on in the Bay this weekend?

Another weekend is approaching and we’re also heading into the start of the school holidays.

If you’re looking for child-friendly activities over the next couple of weeks, don’t forget the Thigs to do button on the Hawke’s Bay App includes a wide range of listings, including movie times and a kids section.

If you do have kids to entertain this weekend, you might want to consider the Great Kiwi Egg Hunt, at the National Aquarium in Napier. More than just any egg hunt, it's an egg-streme search for 11 great Kiwi eggs amongst the aquarium’s exhibits.

The RD9 Hunt and Gather Competition is a family hunting competition based out of the Waiwhare Community Centre which runs from Friday to Sunday, and includes children’s and pre-schoolers’ sections.

Also running from Friday to Sunday is the TrackMe.Life GO-4-12 Youth Adventure Race at the Guthrie Smith Outdoor Education Centre at Tutira.

Starting Saturday is a two-day Food Forest Workshop at Kahikatea Farm, Poukawa, covering the history of designed food forests, and taking you through options for your own design process, implementation and maintenance stages.

There are Reiki Courses on right across the weekend at the Rudolf Steiner Centre in Hastings.

Friday

On Friday night the Lotus Centre in Hastings is hosting a Crystal Class and Crystal Singing Bowl Meditation session for anyone wanting to become more familiar with crystals.

Saturday

Take the kids along to the Hawke’s Bay Brick Show at Karamu High School in Hastings on Saturday to see the awesome Lego displays put on by the Wellington Lego User Group. It’s a fundraiser for a group of Mayfair and Lucknow School students who are heading to Legoland California next month to take on the world to become World Champs at Lego Robotics.

The Napier Spiritualist Church has a Saturday workshop covering a range of topics by Auckland Church minister Matt Todd.

Treasure Island, a pantomime by Ben Crocker, is being performed at Aubyn Theatre in Hastings.

Breathe, in Havelock North, has Tune In, a music and yoga session, on Saturday afternoon.

The Urban Winery in Ahuriri has Lady and the Tramps, Hawkes Bay's hot new jazz band, performing on Saturday night.

Sunday

The Taradale RSA has its indoor craft market from 9am.

If you’re into trail running, the Lake Tutira Off Road Half Marathon, 12k & 5k Trail Run is the place to be.

The April Holiday Programme Lego Session is on at the Taradale Public Library.

There’s a Chili Cook-Off at Bareknuckle BBQ in Hastings on Sunday afternoon. Watch the agony as competitors take on the hot chili eating contest to earn themselves a spot in the National Championships in Auckland.

There’s a presentation on Liberation Philosophy In the Holy Land at Greenmeadows East Community Hall, Napier. Hear from Steve Liddle who worked on an archaelogical dig in Shikhim outside Nazareth in 2017 and was a visiting teacher at one of 17 universities in the West Bank in 2018.

The Chameleon Club in Hastings is hosting a Heart Awakening Cacao Ceremony. The tradition of drinking ceremonial cacao has its origin in the ancient cultures of the Mayas and Aztecas in Central America.
