What’s on in the Bay this weekend?

It’s just about time for another great weekend in Hawke’s Bay!

Friday

There’s a book launch for Hawke's Bay Shorts at The CAN in Napier on Friday evening. After a journey spanning nearly 20 years of local competitions, this is a unique collection of stories and poetry.

Waiohiki Creative Arts Village on SH50 just out of Taradale is hosting a Fire and Drum Jam, an event for drummers, dancers and experienced fire performers. Sit by the fire and drum or get up and dance. Lose yourself in the rhythm regardless of experience or skill level.

Friday night’s music options include Graeme James 'The Long Way Home' NZ Tour at The Common Room in Hastings and Sea Mouse 'Rattle Your Bones' Tour at Paisley Stage in Napier.

Saturday

On Saturday morning there’s a Traditional Usui Reiki Workshop in Napier.

Meeanee Hall is where you’ll find The Magpie Market, an all-weather destination market.

The Environment Centre Hawke's Bay is hosting a seminar on Home Composting for Beginners.

Napier Library Storytime offers Saturday morning fun and excitement in the form of a journey through a collection of adventurous stories and tales for pre-schoolers to enjoy.

There’s a Japanese Mokuhanga (Woodcut) Artist's Talk and Demo at Creative Arts Napier.This week’s talk is includes an interactive demo by artist and expert printmaker Sybille Schlumbom.

J Day 2019 is being marked at the Anzac Memorial, at the Civic Square in Hastings, from noon on Saturday. J Day is part of a worldwide movement for cannabis law reform, held on the first Saturday in May every year.

There’s a Soy Candle & Melt Making Class in Napier. As well as a candle making demonstration, you’ll learn how to paint on glass and decorate your own soy candle.

The Duke of Gloucester Restaurant and Bar in Taradale is hosting the Beauty From the Inside Out Charity Fundraiser on Saturday afternoon. All funds raised at this event will be donated to Heart Kids Hawke's Bay to help them continue and grow their local services within our community.

DJ Static Live, at Oasis in Napier, is an R13 event featuring a variety of music including house, dub step, Hip hop, R&B, Pop, Kpop, Rap &Trap.

Saturday night is Vinyl Night at the Urban Winery in Ahuriri. BYO vinyl or pick what you want them to spin from their collection.

Meanwhile, the Taradale Club is hosting The Beatles Tribute Band Abbey Road and the Cabana has Landslide, a Fleetwood Mac & Stevie Nicks Tribute Show.

Sunday

On Sunday get along to the Napier Sunday Market on Marine Parade Domain, where you’ll find over 60 stalls to explore, along with live music and buskers.

There’s also the Taradale RSA Market, a weekly craft market held indoors.

Te Mata Peak is the setting for Sunday’s Off Road Half Marathon, 12k & 7k Trail Run.

Hastings Choral: Folk Memories is being held at Taikura Rudolph Steiner School in Hastings. It’s a concert of folk songs and songs derived from folk songs, presented by Hastings Choral (a 70 strong adult Choir), conducted by Joseph Christensen, accompanied by pianist Anna Hansen with Soprano Soloist, Giselle Clements.

There’s jazz at Ahuriri’s Urban Winery, this week featuring Trio Nouveau.

On Sunday afternoon, at Napier’s MTG Century Theatre, you can join acclaimed British lecturer Ian Swankie for an inspiring presentation about the extraordinary British designer, Thomas Heatherwick, whose most recognised work includes the design of the spectacular Olympic Cauldron, the iconic new London bus and Cape Town’s stunning Museum of Contemporary African Art.

Esther Juon presents Love your Feet at Duart House in Havelock North on Sunday evening. Swiss born, trained in London, Esther learned how to walk again after a broken back and is motivated to share her knowledge with others. Her experience includes fitting pointe shoes to dancers at the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow. Esther is a member of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) and is a fully qualified ballet teacher.
