Zonta hosting breakfast to celebrate International Women’s Day

Zonta Hawke’s Bay has tickets available for a local breakfast being held next month to celebrate International Women’s Day 2020.

International Women's Day – March 8 – is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

This year’s Hawke’s Bay IWD breakfast will be held between 9am and 11am on Sunday March 9 at the Napier War Memorial Centre.

The day has been marked for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this, the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom's Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women's equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere.

Recent research shows women are the leaders of only 14 of 195 countries, are paid 23 percent less men globally, and that only 7 percent of the Fortune 500 companies are run by women. At this rate, it will take almost 100 years to get to gender equality.

Movements like #MeToo, #TimesUp and the significant global rise in International Women's Day activity in every corner of the world - mean gender is firmly on the agenda!

The theme for 2020 is #EachforEqual. An equal world is an enabled world. Collectively, each one of us can help create a gender equal world.

Tickets to the Hawke’s Bay breakfast can be purchased by clicking here.

They are $55 per person or $500 for a table of 10, with the money raised going to support Zonta projects locally and internationally.
