Taradale Women's Federation Cup footballers first equal

Taradale's Women's Federation Cup footballers returned to first equal spot on the points table with yesterday's home 3-0 win against New Plymouth.

Taradale was determined to put last week's loss behind them and started well with captain Cara O’Neill (pictured above) scoring in the ninth minute. They then piled on the pressure but were kept at bay by some outstanding goalkeeping from the visitors Tsehai Viliamu to go into the break ahead by the solitary goal. Taradale again came out firing in the second half with O’Neill scoring her second goal four minutes into the spell.

New Plymouth then went on the attack with current competition golden boot leader Holly Kliensman leading the way with her pace upfront but the central defensive duo of Holly Barclay and Helen Talbot kept her well contained. ’Neill completed her hat-trick in the 75th minute after some excellent build-up play from the team.

Out of the 30 players on show in yesterday’s game, only six were over the age of 20 showing that there is a lot of young talent coming through in this region and how important the Federation competition is in their development.

Taradale’s Players of the Day were Barclay and Talbot and New Plymouth’s was Viliamu.  O'Neill is third on the Golden Boot table at the halfway point in the season.
