Taradale women's footballers first equal despite loss

Taradale remain first equal in the Central League Federation Cup women's football competition despite today's 2-0 loss to Palmerston North Marist at Taradale Park.

Palmerston North Marist, the other top-of-the-table side, started well and scored early after a goal mouth scramble. But from there the game was very evenly poised with entertaining football being played by both teams at a frenetic pace.

It wasn’t meant to be for Taradale (pictured above) today as they had a goal disallowed and a decent shout for a penalty turned down in the second half and they then got caught short at the back while pushing for an equaliser. Despite the result the young Taradale team can hold their heads high after a gutsy performance without experienced player-coach Aleesha Heywood and midfield lynchpin Milla Green who are both on the injured list.

MVP points today were 3 for Jamie Evans and 2 for Olivia Harding.
