Netball courts to be action packed for season start

Over 2000 netball players will be back playing the sport they love this Saturday at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park in Hastings.

Secondary school and senior club netballers, coaches, umpires and volunteers have been patiently waiting for a return to the courts and as HB Netball General Manager Tina Arlidge says “it’s exciting to be back to normal”.

She adds that although they had always hoped for netball to begin at some stage over winter, there was uncertainty about the level of restrictions that would be enforced, and at one stage, it would have been players only, without family and friends on the sidelines.

“We’re in level 1 now and that means players and their support networks will all be there this weekend. It’s a huge celebration and it will be awesome to see the netball centre as a hive of activity from early in the morning through to late afternoon. We can’t wait."

All levels from secondary school upwards will be playing, with record team entries in the secondary school grades, something that has surprised HB Netball.

“We were unsure of what to expect in player numbers so when we noticed the increase, it was a huge positive that people want to get back out and play sport.
