Bay side makes unbeaten start to touch nationals

Winger Charlotte Wilkins scored eight touchdowns for her Hawke's Bay over-27 women's team which made an unbeaten start to their national touch tournament in Christchurch yesterday.

Wilkins, 31, is better known for her exploits as a midcourter for the Tremains All In Elusive netball team but manager of the Hawke's Bay touch team (pictured above) former New Zealand rep, Honey Amener, is thrilled with how Wilkins is performing in her other code.

Hawke's Bay played three games in their six-team grade yesterday. They beat North Harbour 9-0, Nelson Bays 9-3 and Waikato 16-2.

Former Australia open women's rep and New Zealand age group representative Rachel Tongia is coaching the Bay team. Along with Wilkins, former New Zealand touch rep Candis Timms and their two draft players, Horowhenua's Heniti Buick and Bay of Plenty's Puawai Gardiner, were prominent for the Bay side yesterday.

This morning Hawke's Bay will take on the other unbeaten team in their grade, Counties-Manukau, and this afternoon they will play Canterbury.
