Bay basketballers NZ training camp bound

Basketball Hawke's Bay is thrilled to see 12 of their athletes selected to take part in the BBNZ U14 national camp.

The invite-only gathering is being held at Tui Ridge in Rotorua and will bring together 160 of New Zealand’s most promising young basketballers. This year’s event has been separated into girls and boys – 80 athletes each – to adhere to Alert Level 2 COVID restrictions should they apply at the time. The girls’ camp is from 18-21 April and boys from 21-24 April.

This is the first stage of the National Talent Program and was launched in 2017 to start a higher level of exposure to the talented athletes. Invitees are those who have exemplified an adept skillset and a commitment to training by their local associations.

Basketball Hawke's Bay General Manager Nick Hogan congratulated all those selected into the camp and highlighted the growing talent pool that continues to present itself in the area.

"It is great to see 12 of our most promising selected into this programme. Hawke's Bay has a high number of talented athletes who are capable of taking basketball as far as they personally want to and these 12 athletes are just the tip of the iceberg in respect to our talent in the area.

We continue to look into ways to support, grow and invest in all our athletes while letting them explore all active recreation and sports options that are available to them. I wish all these athletes the best of luck at the camps in April"
