CHB’s Spirited Women event sells out in minutes

The Spirited Women all-women adventure race being held in Central Hawke’s Bay next year sold out in record time yesterday morning, with all 408 team spaces snapped up under 8 minutes.

With the event at full capacity, Central Hawke’s Bay will host more than 1,600 competitors, and several hundred other event crew, support crew, family and friends.

Demand is always high for spaces in the adventure race which sees groups of four women trek, kayak and mountain bike their way around Central Hawke’s Bay – some for up to 18 hours – however this year was a record breaker for how fast the entries sold.

The short course sold out in just over 7 minutes with the medium then long courses selling out less than 30 seconds later. A wait list is already in place for those who missed out.

For the first time in the event’s history, the organisers added a South Island event which will run in Alexandra in February 2020. That event is over 50 per cent sold.

“It’s exciting to sell out so fast! Obviously Central Hawke’s Bay is a popular destination, so we look forward to hosting all of these fantastic, adventurous women next March,” says Anna Molly Baldwin, Central Hawke’s Bay Tourism Co-ordinator.

Hawke’s Bay Tourism is working closely with Central Hawke’s Bay District Council, and Hastings District Council and Napier City Council, in hosting the event.
