Magpies hopes of claiming first title dashed by Taranaki
The Hawke’s Bay Magpies hopes of claiming their first NPC title proved to be a bridge too far as Taranaki beat them 22-19 at a packed Yarrow Stadium in New Plymouth today.
In a match befitting the occassion, Taranaki led 15-14 at halftime before closing out the game to ensure they won the title for just the second time ever.
It was a gallant effort by the Magpies in a season that has also seen them hold the Ranfurly Shield, but despite the Magpies clawing back from 22-14 to come within three points, Taranaki held their composure to win.
