Taradale Women's Federation Cup footballers post victory

Taradale's Federation Cup Women's Football team had a 3-2 win today in their away game at Memorial Park Park in Palmerston North.

The day didn’t go to plan initially with their usual goalkeeper Grace Fulford a late withdrawal so last week's player of the day Charlotte Cameron, a handy netballer, was called on to do the job for the first half. She did enough to keep Palmerston North Marist scoreless at halftime and player-coach Aleesha Heywood (pictured above) scored a great free kick from just outside the box to give the team a 1-0 lead at the break.

Heywood then took over the gloves for the second half and Marist equalised early in the third quarter. But Taradale restored their lead not long afterwards with a Jamie Evans screamer, chipping the keeper from near halfway.

Taradale then went 3-1 up after a pinpoint cross from Helen Talbot found Isla Cleal-Harding free to tap the ball home. Marist scored again in the dying minutes of the match but Taradale held on to claim the three points and cap off a fantastic day for the club with both the other women's teams posting 9-1 and 1-0 victories in the local Hawke’s Bay League.

Players of the day for Taradale in Palmy were Jamie Evans and Helen Talbot with tireless workrates on the huge Memorial Park pitch.
