Body found in search for man missing on Wairoa River
A body has been found in the search for a fisherman missing along the Wairoa River.
On Wednesday evening, a 2.5-metre aluminium dinghy capsized near the river mouth and one of the two people on board did not make it to shore.
The other person was able to swim ashore and alert police. It is understood they had been out fishing.
This afternoon, police confirmed a body had been found during the search, upstream from where he was last seen.
"Formal identification is yet to take place, however, it is believed to be the man who went overboard on Wednesday."
A rāhui remains in place at the river.
