Central Hawke’s Bay District Council "deeply saddened" by passing of former councillor

The passing of long-serving former Councillor Brian Gibbs, will leave a hole in the community, Central Hawke’s Bay District Council says.

This morning, the council shared the passing of Councillor Gibbs, who served four terms from 1989. In a statement, they said they were "deeply saddened".

At the age of 86, Mr Gibbs passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, August 6. His funeral service was held at Central Hawke’s Bay Municipal Theatre on Thursday, August 12

Mayor Alex Walker offered her "sincere" condolences to the Gibbs family at this time.

“We appreciate his time and commitment to the community, in serving four terms on around the Council table.”

She said he was also an integral member of the community, passionately supporting Central Hawke’s Bay A&P Association for many years.

In light of this, his family have asked in lieu of flowers that people make a donation to the Association. Donations can be posted to the A&P Association: PO Box 257 Waipukurau 4242.
