Council mourns sudden loss of friend and colleague
Central Hawke’s Bay District Council and Recreational Services extend their deep sympathy to the family of the man who suffered a medical event and passed away this morning while working at the Pukekaihau Pā site (also known as Hunter Memorial Park) in Waipukurau.
The man, a well-liked friend and colleague, was employed by Recreational Services, the company contracted by Council to provide open spaces operations and management in the district.
Mana whenua led Recreational Services team members present on site in karakia today, accompanied by Mayor Alex Walker.
"The loss of a valued member of our team is difficult for us all. He'll be remembered for his hard work, dedication and the positive impact he had within our team. Our condolences, thoughts and support are with his family at this very sad time," says Cameron Parr, Chief Executive of Recreational Services.
Mana whenua have advised that, as a sign of respect, entry into Pukekaihau Pā / Hunter Memorial Park will be restricted until further notice.
Council staff, many of whom have a close working relationship with Recreational Services, gathered together to hear the news this afternoon and support each other.
