Covid-19: 199 new Hawke's Bay cases and one further death

Hawke's Bay has 199 new cases of Covid-19 and one further death.

The Ministry of Health said the region's new cases were among 5,690 cases and deaths nationwide.

The 10 deaths include people who have died over the past three days.

One person was in their 40s, one in their 60s, two in their 70s, five in their 80s and one was over 90. Three were male and seven were female.

"This is a very sad time for whanau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them," the Ministry said. "Out of respect, we will be making no further comment."

The Ministry previously reported two children under nine had died. One of those deaths has now been assessed and officials have decided Covid-19 was not a contributing factor, and their death has been removed from the tally.

In total 683 people have been publicly reported as dying with Covid in New Zealand. The seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 12.

There are 514 cases in hospitals around the country. Of these, 18 are in an intensive care or high dependency unit.
