Firefighters extinguish small fire in roof void of Flaxmere Pool

Firefighters have extinguished a small fire in the roof void of the Flaxmere Pool.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand Hawke's Bay District Manager Ken Cooper said they received multiple 111 calls just at 11.08am to the Flaxmere Waterworld property on Swansea Road.

"The community were advising us that they could see smoke coming from the roof of the building."

Two appliances from Hastings responded.

"On arrival, smoke was coming out of the extractor fans on top of the roof."

The "small fire" was contained in the roof and extinguished before crews then ventilated smoke from the building.

Cooper said the fire was brought under control quickly. A fire investigator is currently at the scene investigating the cause.

A Hastings District Council spokesperson said the pool has been closed this morning and may need to remain closed for a day or two while any damage is assessed/repaired.

"We will keep the community informed as to when we will be re-opening."
