Lindisfarne Gala well and truly a community event

The Lindisfarne Gala has become a staple in the community since it began 54 years ago, and this year will be no different.

With so many events cancelled in the past few months, Gala Conveners Sally Duncan and Kim Herrick say they are fortunate to be able to hold this "amazing" event for the community.

The Gala, to be held tomorrow from 9am, will feature numerous stalls including white elephant, second-hand clothing, produce, several delicious food options, toys, sports goods, raffles and a silent auction with prizes, not to mention the many fun option for kids run by the boys.

Organised by the Parents & Friends Association, funds raised go towards extras that are needed in the school. In the past, this has included air conditioning, murals and an art teaching experience, sports equipment, equipment for the arts and much more as needs arise.

Another great outcome of the day is that leftover second-hand clothing and other goods go to Re-source HB who rehome goods to those in need.

"The day is a huge combined effort of the entire school community boys, parents and all staff. It takes months of pre-planning and is a great day not only for fundraising but to build the great school spirit. We are extremely lucky to have so many people prepared to lend hand to make the day a success," Kim says.

The boys are all responsible for different stall or activities and are heavily involved with the set-up and then the tidy up. While it is unknown how many people will attend, Sally says the playing field at the front of the school is always overflowing with people. "It's a fun, vibrant day."

The Lindisfarne Gala will be held on Sunday, March 21 from 9am to 12.30pm at Lindisfarne College, 600 Pakowhai Road, Hastings. For more information visit: https://www.lindisfarne.school.nz/news-events-1/the-lindisfarne-gala-1
