New container ship lane marks first direct service from Napier Port to China

In a first for Napier Port, a direct shipping lane for container ships to and from China will be introduced in the new year.

While the port long serviced ships from across the world carrying imported and exported goods, including from China, the new NZE service, from T.S. Lines, will be the port’s first direct service to China.

The first vessel to use the service will be TS Bangkok, due into Napier Port on January 8.

Napier Port CEO Todd Dawson says he is pleased to welcome the new service to Napier after a big year of strategic successes.

“Our teams have put in a lot of hard work throughout the last year creating value and growth opportunities for customers, and it’s great to see this come to fruition. In addition to our new 350m-long Te Whiti wharf coming online this year, we have advanced a number of projects that have improved productivity for cargo owners and efficiency for shipping lines."

"Our teams are dedicated to maximising the additional capacity we now have with improved availability across all our wharves. As we enter into the new calendar year we are set on providing increased flexibility and shipping options for customers and working to ease the supply chain pressures across the country, especially in the North Island.”
