Pick the Bay expo to showcase harvest job opportunities

The Tōmoana Showgrounds Hawke’s Bay is the venue for another Pick the Bay job expo being held this Thursday to showcase work opportunities in the horticultural sector.

As has been the case the past couple of years, growers are in urgent need of workers across the spectrum from the orchards to the packhouses.

In response, Pick the Bay expos or pop-up information sessions have been held over the past two years to make it easy for people to find out more about what’s involved in working on orchards or related harvest activity.

This year Hawke’s Bay Fruitgrowers Association is leading the event with support from Hastings District Council, Napier City Council, NZ Apples and Pears, Hawke’s Bay Winegrowers, Summerfruit NZ, NZ
Kiwifruit Growers, Ministry for Primary Industries, Ministry of Social Development and Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

Hawke's Bay Fruitgrowers Association president Brydon Nisbet said the event was intended to be a relaxed opportunity to meet with and chat to growers about employment options.

“Our growers need a reliable team – they’re keen to offer working conditions with flexibility to suit everyone.

“With different varieties of fruit comes different types of work, so it’s worthwhile finding out what’s on offer – there’s potentially something for everyone, from students wanting work in the school holidays to
those wanting to get a foot in the door to make a career in the industry, to retirees wanting some extra income.”

The Pick the Bay job information session will be held at the Exhibition Hall, Tōmoana Showgrounds Hawke’s Bay, on Thursday, November 3 from 1pm to 6pm.

The work is available from November onwards and if people can’t attend the expo they can see what jobs are available for the summer season at https://jobs.picknz.co.nz/
