Police identify 37-year-old man as victim of Maraekakaho road tragedy

Police have named the person who died after being struck by a truck on State Highway 50, Maraekakaho on Friday evening.

He was 37-year-old David John O’Sullivan of Crownthorpe.

In a statement, police said their sympathies are with his family at this time.

Emergency services received report of the incident at about 6pm on SH50 from the intersections of Glencoe Station Rd and Creek Rd, between Tikokino and Maraekakaho.

The road was closed to traffic through Friday night until late Saturday afternoon to clear the scene and as part of the investigation, but detours were available.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing and Police would like to speak to anyone who may be able to assist.

Anyone who saw an articulated truck and pilot vehicle in the area of SH50 between 5.30pm and 6.15pm on Friday, June 11 is asked to contact police on 105 and quote file number 210612/9336.

WorkSafe have also been notified of the crash.
