Watch Live: COVID-19 Response Minister and Director of Public Health give update

The Waikato Alert Level 3 boundary has been extended following five new community Covid-19 cases in the region - bringing its total to 22.

At the 1pm press conference, Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins and Director of Public Health Dr Caroline McElnay announced 29 new cases in the community, including 24 in Auckland.

Hipkins said Ministers considered advice on the Waikato boundary and as a result Waitomo, including Ōtorohanga will come under Alert Level 3 as of 11.59pm tonight.

Of today's cases, seven Auckland cases are yet to be linked while all the Waikato cases are linked.

"We've seen an excellent response from our latest suburb of interest, Red Beach, and in the last two days over 1200 people in the suburb have been tested," Dr McElnay says.

One previous community case has been reclassified as under investigation, bringing the outbreak's total cases to 1448.

Twenty-three people remain in hospital, including four in ICU.
