All In's Netball familiarity pays off

It was an evening to remember for Tremains All In Elusive's rookie coach Arama Jackson in tonight's opening round of Hawke's Bay's Super 8 premier club netball competition.

In the feature match in front of a near capacity balcony crowd at Taradale's Pettigrew-Green Arena All In beat the BM Accounting HHSOG Huia side 43-31. The Huia team is coached by former Silver Fern Irene van Dyk and her daughter Bianca played goal shoot.

"Yes I will remember this night for a while. But it wasn't so much about beating Irene but focusing on our structures and combinations," Jackson said.

This is his first season in the head coach role but the bulk of his team had been together for three seasons and that familiarity paid off. All In led 14-5 after the first quarter, 20-15 at halftime and 30-24 after the third quarter.

Midcourter Candis Timms was full of authority in all aspects of play, goal keep Kathleen Nahora ruled the defensive circle and goal shoot Pania Rowe again proved why she was the top shooter in the comp last year with 32 goals from 42 attempts for a 70% success rate.

Rowe was being marked by one of the comp's top defenders in Tee Aiolupotea. Bianca van Dyk slotted 14 of her 20 attempts for a 70% success rate.

Thirsty Whale Otane Force beat Vet Services Central Sports 73-32 in the other late game. Otane led 17-10 after the first quarter, 38-16 at halftime and 53-24 after the third quarter.

Otane coach Annemarie Kupa had every right to be impressed with the depth within her squad. Goal defence Anna Parsons displayed the benefits of her vast experience while promising goal shoot Mia Reeves had an 83% success rate with 19 of her 23 attempts.

For Central Timara Wereta had a 73% success rate with 16 of her 22 attempts.

Defending champions Napier Girls High School Senior A beat House of Travel Havelock North Kauri 60-15. The Charissa Barham-coached outfit led 18-6 after the first quarter and won the second quarter 17-0.

Barham utilised her bench throughout the match but her team still led 47-13 after the third quarter. Havelock North would have been disappointed with their 48% shooting percentage, however Michelle Bazalo did manage a 67% individual percentage and shot 12 out of the 15 Havelock goals.

NGHS had plenty of opportunities at goal, with Caitlin Smith shooting 38 from 54 attempts – 70% and the overall team percentage was 65%. Parris Petera impressed in the goal attack, wing attack and centre positions for NGHS while Tabitha Coddington and Charlotte Turner combined well in the defensive circle.

Optimise Physio Outkast Sports beat Hastings Girls High School Senior A 56-26 in the other early encounter. Outkast led 10-5 after the first quarter, 23-14 at halftime 41-20 going into the final quarter.

With four minutes remaining in the first quarter Outkast Sports lost the services of goal attack Maddie Pakoti with a serious knee injury similar to the one she had last year.

The HGHS side is rebuilding this year and coach Denise Aiolupotea is happy with the progress made during the match.
