Good Samaritan assaulted after helping woman in domestic violence incident
A good Samaritan who stopped to help a domestic violence victim was seriously assaulted and remains in hospital, police say.
The assault happened on State Highway 51 at Awatoto at about 4.30am yesterday morning.
In a statement, police said the man stopped their vehicle for a woman being chased by a man following a family harm incident.
The victim sustained serious facial and head injuries and remains in hospital.
Police are seeking any witnesses to this event or motorists in the area at the time who have not already come forward, to contact police.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested and is due to appear in Hastings District Court today on a charge of assault.
