Hōhepa produces signature candles for homeware boutique Cranfields 30th anniversary

Having been a stockist of Hōhepa candles for many years, it is only fitting they were the ones to produce a one-off signature candle for Wellington-based interior store Cranfields' 30th year of trade.

The disability service provider in Hawke's Bay is close to owner Nicola Cranfield's heart. Their workshop provides a meaningful workplace for people with intellectual disabilities in New Zealand and now distributes to 100 suppliers.

Nicola is a proud stockist of Hōhepa candles and has visited their workshop on a number of occasions. She loves the community spirit of the workshop and the amazing quality of their products.

Other local makers creating exclusive products for Cranfields’ anniversary are Whanganui-based jeweller Emma Cunningham of Flying Dog Studio and Four Peaks Gloves in Geraldine.

“I see this as not only an opportunity for us at Cranfields - but an opportunity to showcase really special homegrown talent, with wonderful stories about how and why these makers have chosen to create the products they do,” says Nicola.

She wants Cranfields to continue to grow and evolve and has an eye to the future. Nicola has already opened a second store in trendy College Street in Wellington, which attracts a ‘yo-pro’ crowd with more contemporary pieces.

“Part of the future is being responsive to the values of New Zealanders - I think we have shared goals about valuing what is special, about reducing and avoiding waste, and about spending our hard-earned money on things which are enduring, which ‘speak’ to us, and which make us feel proud.”
