VIDEO: Hawke's Bay's tamariki drop, cover and hold for ShakeOut earthquake drill

When the clock struck 9.30am this morning, tamariki and adults alike dropped, covered and held on for the nationwide ShakeOut earthquake drill.

Tamariki at Hastings Central School were among 1,2367 primary school students in Hawke's Bay to join in on the drill, held to remind people what to do during an earthquake — Drop, Cover and Hold — and to practise a tsunami hīkoi if in a tsunami evacuation zone.

Hawke's Bay Civil Defence Emergency Management (HBCDEM) Community Engagement Team Leader Jae Sutherland said ShakeOut is a great way to raise awareness in our communities about the need to be prepared in the event of a major earthquake and tsunami.
