Video: Jerf van Beek walks through his cyclone hit property

Twyford Fruit Growers were badly hit when Cyclone Gabrielle caused flood damage to their homes and orchards.

Two days after the cyclone hit, Hawke’s Bay App spoke to Jerf van Beek as he stood in the ruins of his property. A month later, we returned to see how he is doing. The Hawke’s Bay Regional Councillor showed us the damage to his orchards.

Van Beek remains positive, but it is hard as he takes us through the piles of items that represent his life. Watch as he becomes emotional when he talks about the personal items, like a piano lying tossed in the mud.

While he is devastated, Van Beek is optimistic that his family, community and industry will get through this.
