Boy who drowned at Napier’s Marine Parade identified

The boy who drowned in the sea at Te Awa, just off Napier’s Marine Parade on Friday, has been identified as a pupil from Marewa School.

On its Facebook page, the Napier primary school published a death notice identifying him as seven-year-old Te Ao Marama Haturini (Boombie) Te Pou.

“It is with the heaviest heart that our whānau inform you all that our beautiful boy was tragically taken from us on the 21st February 2020,” the notice says.

The school said the boy’s whanau had asked them to let the wider community know that Marama Te Pou has sadly passed away after the tragic accident on Marine Parade.

“I know your thoughts and prayers are with the whanau in this toughest of times.”
