One Heart: a new floral artwork that’s blossoming at MTG Hawke’s Bay
Winter may be here but the MTG Hawke’s Bay is blooming, thanks to a collaboration of community spirit and council funding.
One Heart, now blossoming at MTG Hawke’s Bay, is the third in a series of floral-based public artworks created with Napier Activator Champion funding from Napier City Council.
These floral projects, managed by Sally Crown (Kōtare Services) and Laura Jeffares (Floral/Stylist), are produced collaboratively with volunteers, supportive businesses and local school children.
The first flower ‘bomb’ appeared overnight on Napier’s Emerson Street for Valentine’s Day, while the second involved transforming the iconic Napier viewing platform with foraged local flora and fauna over Easter weekend.
Both ‘bombs’ brought together like-minded volunteers and encouraged the public to interact with, and enjoy, the unique installations.
The third floral installation will evolve throughout the month of July at the museum, with visitors able to make tissue flowers that will be incorporated into the final design.
Once completed, One Heart will be sold at a silent auction along with a number of other donated goods and experiences provided by supportive local businesses. Proceeds will benefit KidsCan, the Kiwi charity that supports children in some of Hawke’s Bay’s schools.
Sally Crown and Laura Jeffares say KidsCan do amazing work supporting tamariki to engage in their education by providing basics not always available to families.
“KidsCan help children blossom, just like our floral installations. Creativity and community are the motivating forces behind our projects. We wanted to work together to create something special the whole community could be involved with and enjoy – that’s what drives us.”
