EIT engages with release of new Operating Model

EIT staff and students across EIT campuses have had opportunity this week to engage with the release of the future operating model for Te Pūkenga, the new national institute that all institutes of technology became part of in April 2020.

“The really encouraging thing is that matters that are important to EIT, are also important priorities for Te Pūkenga,” says Chris Collins, EIT Chief Executive.

The drivers behind Te Pūkenga’s future operating model are centred around the learner and employers, achieving greater success for those under-served by the education system, greater success for Māori, better regional reach and access, and building genuine partnerships with Iwi and community agencies to create greater collective regional impact, says Mr Collins.

“It’s great that these are priorities for Te Pūkenga. This isn’t driven by greater system efficiencies. Te Pūkenga is focused on building a better and more integrated and cohesive national vocational education system,” says Mr Collins.

Stephen Town, CEO at Te Pūkenga, also met virtually with EIT’s Board in Tairāwhiti during the week to discuss the future operating model.

Hilton Collier, EIT’s Board Chair, said this was a good opportunity for the Board to have direct opportunity to provide some feedback on the proposed model.

“The Board want to ensure this works well for the people and communities of Tairāwhiti and Hawke’s Bay. That’s what the Board want to make sure we get right," says Mr Collier.

During the week Mr Collins also met virtually with staff across all of EIT’s campuses to present information on the proposed future operating model and to start the process for staff providing feedback.

Te Pūkenga is seeking feedback and input from staff, students, employers and the wider community, and will be engaging with Iwi around building partnership approaches.

Further information on the operating model can be found on the Te Pūkenga website and feedback on the operating model can be provided by logging in to https://yourvoice.tepukenga.ac.nz/en-GB/.
