Group of youths charged following police pursuit from Hastings to Napier

Three young people face an array of charges after allegedly breaking into a building on Market Street South earlier this morning. 

Police responded to a report of the break-in at 2.40am today. 

"The caller advised that the offenders looked like youths and had left the scene in a silver hatchback," a police spokesperson said. 

Police observed the car a short time later at the intersection of King Street North and St Aubyn Street West.

Police followed the car as it drove towards Napier. The driver eventually stopped at the intersection of Riverbend Road and Kennedy Road and the four occupants of the car were taken into custody.

A 19-year-old man will be appearing in Hastings District Court today for burglary and unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle. 

Two youths will be appearing in Hastings Youth Court today on a range of charges.

There are no charges showing for a third youth in the car.
