Truck driver in stable condition at Hawke's Bay Hospital

A truck driver is in a stable condition at Hawke's Bay Hospital after his vehicle rolled down a bank on State Highway 2 near Tangoio Falls last night.

Emergency services were called to the incident near Tangoio Settlement Rd, about 25 kilometers north of Napier, at 7pm. The container truck had rolled about 20 meters down a bank.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said an ambulance and the Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter were dispatched. The latter arrived 15-minutes after the first call.

Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter Trust general manager Ian Wilmot said A 35-year-old male truck driver was extracted from the truck by Fire and Emergency New Zealand crew and Paramedics

He was then flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital with moderate injuries, he said.

The truck is expected to be removed sometime today. During this time, traffic management will likely be in place and the road down to one lane.
