Police name driver who died following Eskdale pursuit

Police have released the name of the man who died following a crash between a car and a truck in Eskdale, north of Napier, last Thursday.

He was 36-year-old Scott Michael Faulkner of Hastings.

Mr Faulkner died after his vehicle crossed the centreline, hitting the truck, following a short police pursuit.

The truck driver was not injured.

Police said in a statement they extended our sympathies and sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

“Victim Support are providing assistance to both Mr Faulkner’s family and a truck driver involved in the crash,” the statement said.

Police said they were continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

They would like to hear from anyone travelling on State Highway 5 between Taupo and Napier last Thursday who may have seen the crash or the silver Mitsubishi station wagon driven by Mr Faulkner.

They should contact Detective Sergeant Daryl Moore at Hastings Police on 06 831 0700.
