Premier club rugby to be live streamed due to spectator restrictions

Premier Club Rugby will be live streamed on Hawke’s Bay App this weekend in the wake of Covid19 level 2 lockdown restrictions which don’t enable large gatherings over 100 people.

Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union has moved the majority of games to Tremain Field at Park Island in Napier and Central Park in Waipukarau, as the grounds are enclosed and entry can be restricted access.

HB Rugby chief executive Jay Campbell said there was a range of challenges in trying to ensure the last round of Maddison Trophy games was completed, but he was delighted with the attitude and co-operation by clubs.

“The entire season has been a challenge but we’ve all made adjustments and we hope that not only can we complete the round-robin games this weekend but also play the semi-finals and finals, which will be played at McLean Park and Tremain Field from next weekend.

“It’s great that we can stream the premier games live thanks to sponsor Oil Intel and fans can enjoy from the comforts of their couch.

“We’ll wait and see what’s announced by the government tonight before we make a call on games over the next fortnight.

Hawke’s Bay Magpies sponsor Oil Intel has stepped up to ensure three games will be live streamed via HB App’s facebook page or directly from the app or website www.hbapp.co.nz

Tomorrow’s games streamed are Napier Pirates vs Taradale at 1.15pm and the clash of the round between foes MAC and Tamatea at 3pm.

On Sunday the game between Napier Old Boys Marist and Havelock North will be streamed live from 3pm.

All senior club rugby, where possible, will continue to be played this weekend.
