Puppies abandoned in Napier public toilet

The SPCA is appealing to the public for information after three puppies were found abandoned in a public toilet in Napier.

The 5-week-old puppies were found this morning in the public toilet at Perfume Point, Ahuriri.

The puppies were found by a member of the public who then alerted the police. The puppies, who are all male, were found with no food or water and were left on a black sweatshirt on the tiles.

The SPCA is not sure how long they were left there for, but the chances are they were left there overnight.

It described them as skinny and having a lot of flea dirt, and says they are still very young and vulnerable and should still be with their mum until they are at least eight weeks old.

The puppies are now recovering at the SPCA’s centre and are keeping warm and eating well.

“These puppies were abandoned with no food, water and nothing but each other and a sweatshirt for warmth. It’s heart breaking to see vulnerable animals being dumped like this,” says SPCA Regional Manager, Bruce Wills.

“We would like to find out more information about where these puppies came from.”

The SPCA wants to hear from anyone with any information about the puppies. All information will be treated as confidential.

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 1999.

If you have any information about this litter of puppies, please call the SPCA on 06 835 7758.
