Special Children’s Day deals on offer in Napier this Sunday
The National Aquarium of NZ is among the Napier City Council facilities offering special deals for Children’s Day this coming Sunday.
Roller sports, stories, a Kiwi movie classic and special entry deals are part of this year’s Children’s Day celebrations at Napier City Council facilities this Sunday, March 3.
Every year the facilities do something special to mark Children’s Day, which is celebrated on the first Sunday of March.
MTG Hawke’s Bay has a special screening of Whale Rider at the Century Theatre at 2pm. Based on Witi Ihimaera's novel of the same name, and set in the East Coast town of Whāngārā, Whale Rider tells the tale of a young Māori girl, Pai (Keisha Castle-Hughes), who challenges tradition and embraces the past in order to find the strength to lead her people forward. Tickets cost just $5 from eventfinda, or the front desk.
A special Seaweek themed story time is on at 12 noon at both Napier and Taradale Libraries – Seaweek runs from this Saturday 2 March, to Sunday 10 March.
Bay Skate has entry for two children for the price of one (children aged 4-17 years) and is also holding a Kiwi Skate Day, featuring demonstrations of various roller sports and scootering, plus "give it a go” sessions, 11am to 5pm.
The National Aquarium of New Zealand is offering free entry for one child with one paying adult (children aged between 3-14 years), as is Par2 MiniGolf, and the Napier Aquatic Centre.
Many other countries recognise Children’s Day and it has been held in New Zealand since 2000. It is an opportunity for families and communities to support and nurture children, with communities and organisations nationwide hosting activities and events designed to bring families together and show how important children are in our community.
