Update: New Zealand to stay at existing Alert Levels for further 12 days.

PM Jacinda Ardern has stated that genomic testing indicates that the second outbreak is not from a 'dormant' strain of the virus.

Auckland will stay in Alert Level 3, and the rest of the country in Alert Level 2, for a further 12 days.

The lock-down ends at 11.59pm on Wednesday August 26, but will be reviewed on August 21.

The wage subsidy will be extended to support businesses, and all of New Zealand will be eligible.

Finance Minister Grant Robertson said Cabinet has made an in-principle decision to extend the wage subsidy, and modify the Covid-19 Sick Leave Scheme to make it more accessible.

Details will be finalised over the weekend and announced on Monday.
